Central Connecticut Hepatitis Community

February 2015

Regular 7pm Meeting, February 11th:
  • Roundtable discussions amongst members will highlight this month's meeting, including discussions about the Veterans Administration HCV treatment path being proposed for one of our members about to start treatment. We will also discuss a non-profit national group that is helping patients their medicines when there are challenges for them affording it by themselves. We will also discuss the changing insurance landscape and how it affects the new hepatitis C standard of care treatments.
  • Hepatitis C education expansion into Eastern Connecticut in the form of a support group into the Willimantic / Windham area has been postponed for a couple of months. We apologize for those who attempted to attend, as the storm on the day of the meeting kept the no-freeze center open all day, cancelling the plan to hold the inaugural Eastern Connecticut Hepatitis Outreach meeting. This month, the facilitator has a conflict the day of the February meeting and we hope March is the charm.

  • Future meetings:

At our meeting next month, on March 11, 2015, we are hoping the pharmaceutical companies have some additional treatment options that have attained FDA approval so we can look into what each means to our members. We also will be making plans for the upcoming Hepatitis Awareness Month in May, as well as the summer picnic. The plan is also to discuss the changing insurance landscape and how it affects the new hepatitis C standard of care treatments.

    Prospects for future meetings:
A transplant surgeon, attorneys, psychiatry professional, massage therapy education and treatment experiences are some of the ideas on the table.
