November 2005
Confidential public hepatitis C Connecticut support group for diagnosed, family, friends, interested individuals and those with other liver maladies. Regular meetings are held on second Wednesdays from 7-9pm at UConn Health Center, Research Building, Room EG 013 (look for the stand-alone signs). Anonymously visit to experience current educational segments (with professional speakers from various fields), to talk to those afflicted (some considering treatment, some on treatment, and some finished treatment) and family/friends/supporters or to just hear what these diseases are all about.
Next Regular Meeting on November 9th:
After introductions, Herbert L. Bonkovsky, M.D will be making a presentation about current UConn Health Center "clinical trials" to the support group. Following the educational and medical Q&A quarter, group discussions/support will continue through the close of the meeting.
Organizational and Facilitator elections (this year in December) will be discussed in executive session near the end of the regular meeting.
Nominate your candidate to be facilitator for 1 year (January 1 through December 31) renewable terms. Nominations must be accompanied by candidate acceptance (presence required) of the nomination and the reliable performance of the duties involved. All current and past members and those who have ever attended are urged to attend the December meeting.
Future Meetings
On December 14th, Dr. George Wu will speak on new classes of drugs in the pipeline, and Dr. Raina will discuss new trials at UCONN.
Following educational discussion, we will hold the election of the facilitator one year term. Each candidate would say a few words about what his/her plans are and then the entire group will vote in a closed
ballot election.
After elections will be the annual HOLIDAY PARTY.
On January 11, 2006, Shirley Allen, MSEdRD CD-N who is a Diabetes Program Dietitian at UCONN will present "Healthy Diet for Coping with Hepatitis C" and answer group questions.

On February 8, 2005, Zoanne Vollono, APRN will discuss "The Emotional Ups and Downs of Living with Hepatitis C".
On April 12, 2006, Dr. David Hull will discuss Liver Transplantation.
Prospects for other 2006 meetings:
Pharmacist & RN Team from Professional Home Care Services will speak on their Hep C Program and answer group questions on medications; Also planned is a Naturopathic Doctor, a Massage Therapist, Connecticut Attorneys and a medical presentation on HIV/HCV co-infection issues.
